Default Specific Customization of Word's ToC

Greetings,

I am looking to customize my ToC for readability AND efficiency. As such, I'm unhappy with Word's defaults. I have changed the simple stuff like (a) adding extra levels (b) changing style fonts/colours/spacings (c) added pages #s to ToC.. This is what my ToC looks like afterwards (pic 1)

My field code:
{\H \Z \T "HEADING 1,2,HEADING 2,3,HEADING 3,4,TITLE,1" \N "1-1"}

Now I have issues.
1) TOC1 and TOC4 should have NO page #s, TOC2/TOC3 should.
2) For some reason TOC3 (x.y. shows no leaders! but it should...) Can I manually control this part? What about the position of the page #s?
3) When I try changing the indent (pic2) for TOC4 beyond a certain point, I get the appearance of pic 3. What (another tab?) is causing the leader to switch? (because I see no other tabs on the ruler)

Any help is much appreciated; it seems Word has done a pretty bad job at making the ToC customizable...
Bryan

Hi Bryan,

I think your TOC field code needs to be something like:
{TOC \T "HEADING 1,2,HEADING 2,3,HEADING 3,4,TITLE,1" \N "1,4" \H}

The presence/absence of do leaders is managed via the formatting of the appropriate TOC Styles.

As for the page #s, you can usually drag on to the required position and all (at least for that level) should snap to that position. That's because TOC styles are set to automatic updating by default.

The indenting problem is related to where the paragraph tabs are set in relation to the indents.
