Default Remove Portion of Field Labels

How do I edit the caption REF_ field code to stop the Label (Table, Figure, Reference) being added for portion of cross-references. If I manually delete the label in text associated with the caption field code, the label is reloaded (perserved) the next time the document is reloaded/opened.
1. Example desire: References (a) and (b) vice, Reference (a) and Reference (b).
2. How do I add a 's' to the caption label (see example above) or maybe I could delete both labels and just type in "References"?

Thanks

Hi sbianco,

That isn't possible with alphabetic caption numbering. It can be done with numering caption numbering, though, by adding a numeric picture switch to the REF field.

Thanks for the response. Let me do some caption numbering investigation.

I've solved the the single letter reference/table/fig character string by adding a bookmark. In the phase: "References (a) and (b)"; the "(b)" is now a bookmark mapped to that Reference so when I hit F9 the (b) bookmark is updated, if that makes sense. I can't solve the plural on the "Reference" label. I wish I could just add a 's' to that field. Thanks

For that, you'd need to bookmark the (a), (b) and (c) and type 'References' manually, after which you can insert the cross-references. FWIW, this would also allow you to have 'References (a) - (c)'.

Why didn't I think of that? Yes, Yes thanks. This is why you need to walk away and let someone else look at your document/code.
