Default Field responses

When I open word documents instead of field responses being displayed the field itself is shown (i.e. instead of seeing my table of contents I see {TOC}, instead of page numbers I see { page \ merge format} etc.) while it is easy enough to convert to field responses by selecting the text and pressing shift+F9 I would prefer it if I didnt have to do this everytime I go back to a Word document.

Is there anyway to get my field responses showing as default when I open my .docx files?

Thanks
