pasting words into a table

This seems crazy but I was attempting to paste a paragraph into w MS Word 2003 document and the text did not break onto the next page of the table it dissapeared " Down behind the table bottom", if I delete a paragraph furthe up , I can see the text, but it will not go onto the next page. Can anyone help me please.
