aligning heading numbers/ left side of TOC
This is MS Word 2003 and I realize that you may be able to do things in later versions that I cannot do here. But I would still like to know, can you do this in my version? in any version?
I know how to right-align page numbers on the right side of a TOC. My problem relates to the left side of the page. Heading styles are aligned left at zero so that the text of the heading always aligns with the left margin of the page. The number of the heading style is offset left of the margin *and* right-aligned so that the periods between the number and the text of the heading are always in the same position. But I can’t make this happen in the TOC after trying several settings. The chapter title numbers are always left-aligned in the TOC. Can I right-align those numbers? |

You can set a negative left indent (and a hanging indent). But, in the TOC, you can't mimic the right alignment for the paragraph number, I'm afraid.
