Default Black line that is in word document that won't go away !

There are these black lines in my word document that absolutely won't go away no matter what I do. I've tried deleting them, cutting them, even copying the document to another black document and they will not go away. I need to submit this papre soon so I was wondering if anyone could possibly help me out with how to get rid of them! Thank you so much!

I am guessing here but, those lines may have been put in the "header" or "footer" (or, as a watermark) at some point. If that was the case, you would have to go into the header, footer or watermark in order to remove/delete the lines.

Default Use the Borders Button

Hi,

If you type three or more hyphens in Word, you often get a black line going all the way across the page. Here's how to get rid of them:

1.Click to place your cursor above the line.

2.Click on the Home tab at the top of your screen.

3.Click on the drop-down arrow next to the Borders button toward the middle of the Ribbon in the Paragraph group.

4. Click on No Border.

Here's how to make it so this Word doesn't do this again:

1. Click on the File button in the upper left-hand corner of your screen.

2. Click on Options near the bottom of the menu that pops up.

3. Click on Proofing on the left-hand side of the box that pops up.

4. Click on the AutoCorrect Options button on the right.

5. Click on the AutoFormat As You Type tab in the next box.

6. In the Apply as you type group in the middle, uncheck the box next to Border lines.

7. Click OK to get out of both boxes.

Hope that does the trick!

I am adding on to Kara the Computer Tutor's message. In addition to unchecking "border lines," in my experience, it was essential to also uncheck "bottom" in order to remove the black line.

You have resurrected a thread that is more than ten years old.

That said...Everything in Word has a style applied.

Lines like this are borders, usually direct formatting, not style-based. The solutions given above address any methods that can cause such a line.

Yes, reapplying a style will remove direct formatting.
