Word doc corrupted and seems lost

I have Word 2000. The document I was working on crashed while I was working on it and seems to have disappeared. All I was able to get was a "rescued document.txt" which contains a whole lot of question marks. Can I get my original document back???



The shortcut on my desktop remains but gives a message "the item this shortcut refers to has been changed or moved....... Do you want to delete this shortcut?"

It is not in the recycle bin, it has not moved under its original name, only the .txt doc remains.

Am I able to get my doc back?
