Default Template for Noting Sheet.

I want to develop a template for Noting Sheet which should repeat in all pages. I want that when I put Left Margin Page Border and Upper Page Border then both the lines should cross each other at their intersection point at extreme start of page. I also want to know how to make a frame or text typed in left margin portion repeat in all pages.
I have also attached a sample file for your easy understanding. The page depicted should be repeated in all pages to make template. Please tell me also how to protect the template contents i.e. in header and left margin to be not edited by any other person.

To be honest, I'm not quite sure what it is you want, but I'll give it a go:

  • Create your design (don't worry about the margins at the moment - JUST the design)
  • Select all (Ctrl+A)
  • Cut (Ctrl+X)
  • View > Headers and Footers
  • Paste the design into the header and rearrange as needed
  • Exit the Headers and Footers
  • Change the margins to suit
  • Save As ... > Template
  • DONE
Now you have your design on all pages, as a template, so that it will create a new document every time AND the design is unchangeable except to those who know about headers and footers!

Is that what you were looking for?

Default To Big_Fat

For me, it is that darn TextBox on the side as I understood he wants repeated also

I could only get it to do this with Copy & Paste

I don't think you can just protect the Header (or Footer)

If you put EVERYTHING from the design in the Header, then you can resize the left margin and it becomes like a Watermark and is considered to be BEHIND the text by Word.

You don't need to protect it - it's seen as being on a different layer, so can't be typed over by accident.

I create my stationary this way and it has elements at the top, left and bottom of the page. All it takes is resizing the margins so that the text doesn't go over the image (though it won't make any difference if that's what you want it to do, it won't alter the design as it is on a different layer.)

Actually - if you wanted the box to be typed in, but you didn't want people to be able to edit the design - then you could place it in the Header as above, then using the 'Forms' toolbar, you could place a frame round it and change the text direction before adding text fields in the correct places - then the info could be filled in, while protecting the design!

And FYI zyzzyva57 - It's BIRD, not BIG! though you're not far from the truth - LOL!

I would love seeing your point in an example

Could I prevail upon you to post an example, particularly how to handle that TextBox on the left he wants on the left on every page after page 1?

'Noting2.doc'
The box to the left has been placed into the Header and I have added two blank text fields in the main document window to aim people towards the correct areas – they can type in these boxes, while the design itself is protected by being in the Header.
If the red lines are also supposed to be part of this, then the could also be part of the Header.
If this is saved as a Template, then it negates a lot of the issues that were there in the first place. I don't think this is really ideal, as moving on to a new page will not take the fields with it, but then, do you need to have the number and date more than once in a document? Though I suppose you could write a quick bit of script to copy and paste the frame and fields if a new page is created - declare pg AS Range, then use a For Each statement to govern the copy paste operation?!

'Noting3.doc'
If this was created as a full form, with sections that allowed for large input, etc. Then it could be protected, thus stopping any form of tampering, but not stopping people being able to enter data. - this would be my idea of the best approach, then you just open a new page from Template whenever you need it.

'Noting4.doc'
The other way this could be done is to add the fields to the box INSIDE the Header – but that would depend on what the number and date are – you could create autonumbers relating to page numbers (if that’s what the number is!!) and place an autodate (unticking the ‘Automatically Update’ box) to create a ‘date on creation’ field! - this would be a better option than the first to me as it would then auto populate and negate user error - the only thing is, you would need to know what the reasons for the two fields are!
