Is there anyway to create a "box" around photos you add to documents.

Word makes this easy. Insert your image. Select your image. Look to the top menu for "Picture Tools." Click on Picture Tools. In the new ribbon menu that appears, click the down arrow beside "Picture Boarder." Several options are available. While you're in that ribbon menu, check out picture styles and picture effects. They may provide a more interesting way to accomplish your design goal.
