Default Ugh - MS Word launches and immediately displays "Save As" window?

I have a netbook with Windows 7 starter, and I have Office 2003 installed. (I'm intentionally resisting getting Office 2007 or 2010.) Recently, any time I try to launch Word, the Save As option pops up, and I can't make it go away. It won't save, won't cancel, won't let me work on the document I'm trying to pull up, and won't let me close Word. (To close Word, I have to end task.) Does anyone know what this is or a trick for fixing it?

I've tried reinstalling Office, and that hasn't worked.

Thanks!
