Default Footnote Sequence, with asterisk, dagger, double dagger

Trying to figure out how to set up a footnote sequence, so that notes at the bottom of the page will first appear prefaced with an asterisk, then a dagger, then a double dagger, etc.

I can get to the box that allows the user to enter a "custom mark," into which I can get the asterisk but I can't figure out how to go any further.

Guidance appreciated.

Hi DBinSJ,

That's not the way to do it - you change the number format instead.

Yipes: I have another problem.

When I create the footnotes, the program moves the intervening text (between the paragraph with the note and the note at the bottom) to the next page. So there's a big gap of white space between the symbol and the note at the bottom of the page.

Any ideas on how to avoid that?

Hi DBinSJ,

There are various factors that come into play here. For example, if the affected paragraph's attributes are set to 'keep together', then all of it must stay on a common page and that can mean a large empty space at the bottom of the preceding page. Another possibility is that your page layout has inappropriate dimesions for the bottom marging and/or the page footer. Without seeing the document, I can't really advise further.
