Where are you storing the macros? If they are in a trusted location, such as the location for Normal.dotm, they should run OK.

When the macros fail, is there an error message?

They are in a trusted location

They used to work just fine?
All of a sudden They don't?
I think a program i installed may have caused the problem. The program was from iomea> Iclone

Even now when I assign keys in Word options to run them>they suddenly stop working? I have used macros for years with no prolems?

Poorly designed add-ins can cause all sorts of problems. If you can't uninstall it from Control Panel, see the sections referring to template and COM add-ins in the article at http://support.microsoft.com/kb/921541/en-us/ (Troubleshoot problems that occur when you start or use Word 2010, 2007, or 2003).

Default Already removed it

I Already removed it

The problems may have started after I installed it. It was not an add in>it made a clone on my notebook computer> didn't really work very well>so I got ride of it

I have to make the same macros for each file I open? & then assign keys to run them> never had that problem before

Hi Gardener,

Macros cannot be saved in docx documents - only in doc or docm documents (plus dot & dotm templates). However, macros in a dotm template will work in any docx file attached to that template.

I am using a docm???

The macros worked in this docm file for years & then stopped working?
I made new macros & they worked for awhile & then stopped for no reason that I could figure out. I have created them again & so far they work in existing docm files, but unlike before> they don't work in a new file

Hi Gardener,

To be available for all documents, whether docx or docm, your macros would have to be stored in the documents' template (typically Normal.dotm). If that's where they're stored, you should be able to see them via Alt-F8 on even a brand-new document.

Hi Gardener,

Do the macros run when you select them via Alt-F8? If so, this issue isn't that the macros don't work, it's that your key assignments don't work!

Hi Gardener,

Unless some add-in has taken over the key assignments (which doesn't seem likely since they now apparently do nothing), you should be able to fix that by opening Word's Normal template for editing, then re-creating the key assignments.
