Default Heading 2 Numbering Problem

My outline heading 2 formatting seems corrupted. I've read the shauna kelly site but that didn't solve the problem. When my Head 1 advances to 2.0, 3.0 etc. the Heading 2s remain as 1.1, 1.2 etc instead of 2.1, 2.2 etc and 3.1, 3.2 etc. When I try to click the "previous level number" box to indicate "level 1" although it shows level 1 as an option, it won't allow me to click it. I don't know if that has anything to do with this numbering problem. Any suggestions? Thanks!

Use the Modify Style dialog box for Heading 1 to access the list numbering (as detailed in Shauna's article).

For level 2, delete the content of the "Number format" box and recreate it by adding the current level number from the "Number style" box and add level 1 from the "Previous level number" box. Type in the period.

When you are done, click OK repeatedly to close all dialog boxes.

Default Thanks!

Thank you! Your advice worked with one adjustment. After experimenting with the options I found I had to set the Previous Level Number field first then add the period, then set the Number style field. By doing it in that order, the heading numbers were correct (e.g., 2.1, 2.2 2.3 etc).

Doing it in the logical order is easier, of course. It is possible to do it in the reverse order if you manually move the insertion point, though. :-)

Thank you for the follow-up.
