Default I cant edit content in this one document...

Let me start by saying unfortunately I cant share this document, as Im sure it would help immensely in figuring out what the problem is, but it's sensitive to my place of business. I can however show an obfuscated screenshot of it, for what it's worth.

Image here.

This doc was created by someone who is long gone. The boss asked me to make an edit to it. Basically, it's a template for which some legal documents will be made from. As you can see in the picture, on the left side is some wording that I need to edit. But no matter what I try, I can't edit the text.

My cursor never changes to the editing I-beam when hover over, click, or double-click the text.

I've tried opening this in Word 2007 and Word XP 2003. Same problem. I know the text is in a text box, but that text box is within... something else. I dont know what. It's not another text box, it's not a table, it's not a column. I havent seen anything like this.

If I right click on the border shown, one of my options is "Format Frame". So is it a frame? I never dealt with these before.

Here is the rest of the options when I go into "Format Frame", but none of them seem to do anything that lets me edit the text box within.

If I click that "Remove Frame" button, the frame-thing is gone, and the inner text box containing the text is freed, changes positions, and is now editable. But of course this wrecks the whole format of the document.

Anyone have any suggestions how to edit this text without removing the frame? Thanks much. This will be a lifesaver!

Hi Yerk55,

Without seeing the actual document, it's hard to say.

If the content appears on every page, it's likely to be in the page header or footer.

If the document is set up as a Word form, it probably uses formfields. In that case, you can only enter anything into the formfields or unprotected portions of the document; indeed, forms protection can even be applied to documents without formfields to restrict users from editing certain Sections. Turning off the forms protection is needed before the protected content in such documents can be edited.
