Default Independent, Split Columns in Word?

Hello:

I am trying to see if it is possible to create two separate columns in Word that work totally independent of one another. Let me explain. I know you can create multiple columns very easily. However, when you add text on one column and finish to the bottom of the page, it begins to add text on the second column on the same page, moving the text down. What I am trying to accomplish is to be able to have two columns. The left column is blank where you can type freely with whatever font size, etc. you desire. Simultaneously, I want to have the right column loaded with text that correspond to the contents of whatever I type on the left column WITHOUT moving the text down or changing it an any way.

Ultimately, I am wanting to be able to write my own comments and notes to the text on the right, which means that I want the text on the right to stay put.

Is this possible with Word? If not, does anyone know of any program that would work?

Thank you,

Dave

You could try using a table. To do that:

1. Click on the Insert tab.
2. Click on the Table button.
3. Choose a two column by one row table.
4. Drag the bottom edges of the cells to the bottom of the page.
5. Highlight both cells.
6. Click on the Design tab under the Table Tools contextual tab on the Ribbon.
7. Click on the dropdown arrow next to the Borders button toward the right-hand side.
8. Choose "No borders" in the menu that pops up.

I hope that helps you!

Thank you for the idea!

Tables might not be a bad idea! However, at first thought it would seem to be too tedious to create a table so large for my needs. The pages on the Word Docs may be well over 100 pages long each. I will be making many different documents with varying lengths of text. After thinking about it a while, it may not be so tedious after all. It will just be a one-time setting for each Word file to make them the desired length, one cell for each column, but very, very long. I will give that a try.

Thank you very much!
