Default Heading styles constantly reformatting

Hi,

I'm working on a 500-page document with 5 defined heading levels, which use outline numbering.

I keep finding that, whilst I'm working on the document, the heading styles suddenly redefine themselves - I don't see it happen, just suddenly realise that it has. Most commonly, it changes to italics, or bold, or vice versa, which at least is fairly easy to fix (although VERY annoying), but it's also been cancelling out the outline numbering, which I can't seem to be able to fix - I keep having to revert to saved versions.

Can anyone help?

Thanks x

For the affected heading styles, clear the "Automatically update" option (in the Modify Style dialog box).

Thanks for your response Stefan - the box is already cleared for all styles, though. Any other ideas?

OK, when do you see this? After you have closed and re-opened the document? Or does it happen in the middle of editing?

OK, that was what I initially assumed, and that's why I suggested the "Update automatically" setting.

Does it happen with any document or with a particular document?

I haven't noticed it before, but it's hard to specifically check because it's a random problem - not easy to replicate.

If at all possible, upload the document here and I'll have a look.

Unfortunately I can't as it's not my document, it's for a client, and it's confidential. I'll try and more carefully observe when it happens, to see if I can give more information.

Thanks for your help!
