Referens to an item list...

Hi,

If I have a automatic list of items like:

1. Item 1
2. Item 2
3. Item 3
4. Item 4

And in my text I refer to item 3. And then inserts an item between 1 and 2 causing item 3 to become item 4. How can I make the reference in the text to change to 4 automatically, is it possible?
