Smile Macro for printer properties

Hey all,
I was wondering if its possible to create a macro in word to do the following:
-Go into printer properties
-Change drawing to D-Size
-Scale it properly

-Print to a specific printer

I have no idea where to even begin doing this.
Any step in the right direction would be much appreciated

Thanks ahead of time.

Hi kjk20,

What is a 'D' size drawing and what has this to do with the printer properties?

Hey Macropod,
A D-Size drawing is just a different size drawing.
Here are the other types:
ANSI A 215.9 x 279.4 8.5 x 11 ANSI B 279.4 x 431.8 11 x 17 ANSI C 431.8 x 558.8 17 x 22 ANSI D 558.8 x 863.6 22 x 34 ANSI E 863.6 x 1117.6 34 x 44
I have a report in access that I want in ANSI D but Access won't allow a page width to be greater than 22"
I figured a solution around this problem would be to export that report into word and print through word in ANSI D.
My problem is that I was wondering if i could create a macro to automatically do the configurations instead of having to always change printer properties every time i export into word.

Thanks for any help!

Hi kjk20,

Like Access, Word has a maximum page size of 22in in either direction. So exporting to Word won't advance your project.

FWIW, the 22in limitation is due to the fact that 22in represents 31,680 twips (20 twips = 1pt & 72pt = 1in), the largest number of whole-inch twips below 2^15 (32678).

Of course, if you output your report to a PDF, scaled appropriately, you should be able to re-scale the PDF at print time to suit whatever size paper is available.

Thats a bummer macropod but thanks for letting me know.
I've been fiddling with Macros all morning to get it to do what I want.
Do you know if its possible to set up a macro to do a similar thing in PDF format?

Hi kjk20,

I'm not familiar with pdf-generation from Access, so I can't advise you on that front. Nevertheless, provided you scale the graphic to suit whatever page sizes are available in Access, if you then save the report as a PDF (at that size), the standard pdf-scaling tools will allow you to print the output to the larger-format paper, all at the correct size.
