Share Macros from word 2010 to word 2013/2016

I have a macro I want to share with some other users, but some have office 2013 and others 2016. I tried making a global macro and then exporting the macro from my pc and importing it to their pc, and I also tried making a .dotm file and saving it in %AppDat%/Microsoft/word/Startup along with the macro, but neither of them worked.
Can someone please tell me how to share a macro with different office versions, with step by step instructions or a link to a tutorial that actually works?

You store your macro in a macro-enabled template. You store any keyboard shortcuts or QAT modifications to access the macro in the same template. That template is placed in the user's Startup Folder. The macro is available then to all documents for that user. This assumes that the Startup folder is a "trusted location."
