Accessing Word Add-on via shortcut key
Hi friends!
A friend of mine developed a Word add-on in dot.net. Since there are no visible Macros it seems that I cannot assign a hotkey sequence to run the functions in the add-on. The only way I found possible was to record a macro in an external program of me choosing the functions from his addition to the ribbon. It would be like alt-y-9 y-7 or some crazy thing like that, and then I would have to assign a hotkey to the macro and have the macro program running all the time in the background. Does anybody have a better, more direct idea? Thank you and have a good day! Susan Flamingo |

The designer of the Add-In can attach keyboard shortcuts.

You might be able to directly assign hotkeys to functions in your friend's Word add-on without the need for macros. Here's a general approach you can try:
Customize Ribbon: In Word, go to "File" > "Options" > "Customize Ribbon." Add Commands: On the right side, under "Customize the Ribbon," select the tab where your friend's add-on commands are located. Create Custom Group: Click "New Group" to create a new group within the selected tab. Add Commands to Group: Select the commands from your friend's add-on that you want to assign hotkeys to and add them to the custom group. Assign Hotkeys: With the commands selected in the custom group, click the "Keyboard Shortcuts" button at the bottom. Assign Hotkeys: In the "Customize Keyboard" dialog, you can assign hotkeys to the selected commands. Simply press the desired hotkey combination in the "Press new shortcut key" field and click "Assign." Confirm Changes: Click "Close" to confirm the changes and close the dialog. |

Thank you for your attention!
While my special tab does show up on the right and I can create a new group under that tab, when I come to assign the shortcut, the tab doesn't show up on the left (see attach) any ideas? Thank you and have a good day! Susan Flamingo |
