Can't delete project in Word, getting run-time error 53
I used to use an add-in called WordRake that helps correct grammar and so on. I stopped using it a couple of years ago.
Last week I got a new MacBook and migrated all my files and apps to it from the old MacBook. But now when I start Word, I get this error: Run-time error '53': File not found: /Library/Application Support/Microsoft/Office365/User Content.localized/Add-ins.localized/WordRake/libWordRake.MacOS.Bridge.dylib (see attached screenshot). I have to click "End" 3 times to clear the error. I can't figure out how to get rid of it. The WordRake app is long gone. When I go to the library location there's nothing there (it is empty after /Microsoft/). When I search with spotlight for WordRake there's nothing. The only reference I can find to it is on the visual basic editor, (Word/Tools/Macros/Visual basic editor). I see a project there listed as "Project (WordRake)", see 2nd screen shot attached. But I can't open or delete it; when I try I get a message that says "Project locked." I've spent a couple of hours with Microsoft Level 1 and then Level 2 support and they couldn't figure it out. Any ideas of how to resolve this? (Microsoft did two clean reinstalls that didn't work.) |

Have you tried to manually rebuild the entire path adding the missing folders after ../Microsoft/ : /Library/Application Support/Microsoft/Office365/User Content.localized/Add-ins.localized/WordRake/ and then copying the file libWordRake.MacOS.Bridge.dylib from the old MacBook ?
If the old file is no longer available maybe a dummy empty file with the same name could trick Office and allow you to delete the Add-in from Word. |

Thanks rollis, I'll try that. Seems like a pretty straightforward solution.

I tried creating (faking) the rest of the path but it didn't work, still getting the same error.
Any other ideas? My main question is how can I stop Word for looking for a non-existent file? |

Sorry not many other ideas; did you use a fake .dylib ? or did you use a copy from the old Mac ?
Last chance (for me), have you tried to install the demo app WordRake so you could then remove the add-in to cleanout your Word and at last uninstall it? |

rollis13: your 'last chance' idea worked. I downloaded the 7-day trial program, installed it, and Word is now working without the errors!
We'll see what happens when the trial runs out. At $11 per month I definitely won't be signing up. Thanks for your help. |

I think you can now safely uninstall it right away following the WordRake's provided Help.

Well, I'm going to keep it for the trial period as it's a good app, so might as well get some use out of it! :-)
Thanks again. |
