I have a field in which I need to change to the last baseline entered in DOORS. I will be sending this data into a macro, but I don't want to keep the field when I change its text. Is it possible to replace the field with regular text so that the user doesn't see it as a field and if so, how do I do this?

Selection.Fields(1).Unlink

I have 2 fields actually. One is a date field and the other is a document variable. The date field is the first field and the document variable field, called previousBL, is the second one. It is very important that I change at least the date field to regular text so that it doesn't change each day when the user opens the document.

Date fields have useful variations which I would recommend before you throw the baby out with the bathwater. Perhaps you can use one of the other variations instead of unlinking the field.
{Date} is problematic as it shows today's date whenever it is updated
{CreateDate} is the date that the document was created (or the date you used SaveAs)
{SaveDate} is the date the document was last saved. This won't have a value until the doc has been saved at least once and the field is updated.
