Default Share custom tab and macros with other users

I've written and refined (both with this forum's tremendous help) a number of macros that I rely on daily. I'd like to share my macros with others in my organization, most of whom don't know what a macro is much less how to set them all up in a custom tab.

I'd like to share my own custom tab with them, and share all of the macros. I've spent hours trying to teach myself how to do this with global templates, but I'm still coming up short.

I know how to:
  • Add macros to the global template
  • Add keyboard shortcuts to the global template
  • Add buttons to the QAT in the global template
  • Move the global template to the Startup folder

I don't know how to:
  • Create a tab that lives in the global template that mirrors my own custom tab
  • Add custom icons to that tab

Can you help? Is global template even the right way to do this?

This is great, thank you Graham. One question: rather than re-coding it from scratch, is there a way to copy/paste the xml for my existing tab into the new template?

This is really not practical. You would still be re-writing much of it. You can examine the xml for assistance.
