Batch merging of Word documents
I dont know if I am just not putting in the right words into google but I can't seem to find something which will do the following (free)
I have a folder full of Docx Word documents and I would like to add a page at the start (or the end of a file). So for example adding the same cover page to all of the documents in a folder. Ideally a simple program would be good but so far I have only found one called BinaryMark Batch Docs but I was hoping there might be something free. I also havent been able to find mention of a Macro which could do the same. Does anyone know of anything which can do this? Thanks. |

You might even look at the Combine Multiple Word Documents 'Sticky' thread at the top of the Word VBA forum (https://www.msofficeforums.com/word-...documents.html)...

I had a look at the Graham Mayor Document Batch Processes add on however when trying it out I couldn't see how you can insert pages or merge documents. At least using the ready made options.
I will have a go at using it for the folder option and see if I can get a user defined macro working. I will check out the Combine Multiple Word Documents vba as well. Thanks to both of you for taking the time to reply. |

I don't think the Combine Multiple word docs will work. This seems to be a take a load of word docs and combine it into one.
I want to be able to take one and push that into many. i.e. One to Many not Many to one. I have been unable to get the the User Defined Process with the Batch Processing addon to work. I create a simple recorded macro entering some text and tested it working as a normal run macro. Unfortunately when running in the addon it gives an error Unable to execute the process you defined Ensure the procedure named 'Macro2' exists in the Normal template and tray again. Looking in the marco list it is in Normal.dotm (global template) No clue as to why it doesn't work. |

For a Cover Page, look into the Cover Page Building Block. You can create a custom building block. That can be manually added to documents by Insert Cover Page.
You can have code that adds a building block as well. Using VBA to Insent an AutoText Entry or other Building Block |

Worked out why it goes wrong. When making a recorded macro it put it in as a sub macro. I just needed to move the recording part into the top function and it worked.
Now though although I can insert into a doc already open the batch part is now the problem and it doesn't do anything to those files. I had used the insert cover sheet as a test. Actually I have just realised it has inserted the cover sheet into the same file multiple times haha. At least I am moving forward |
