Default Convert custom marks to endnotes

I have hundreds of documents with citations that are custom marks rather than actual footnotes or endnotes. The custom marks link to the corresponding citation, but not in the preferred way. Unless I use Word's Reference > Footnote/Endnote option, the book publication software cannot import the references (hundreds of them!).

If anyone can suggest a way to convert these custom marks to footnotes/endnotes, I would greatly appreciate your help!

It's not apparent what you mean by 'citations that are custom marks'. That said, see: https://gregmaxey.com/word_tip_pages...footnotes.html

Default getting closer

Thank you for your prompt response!

The folks at Vellum (publishing software) told me it looks like the way each of the footnotes were created, each endnote number is considered a “custom mark.” In other words, these footnotes aren’t “numbered.” Attached is a sample document that may better illustrate.

Your tip brings me closer to the solution. Perhaps my application of the script is flawed. When I concluded, I received the message, "No fixed note reference was found"

Any suggestions are appreciated.

It appears your footnote numbering has been corrupted, rather than there being a custom setup. Fixing it is fairly simple, though:
1. Convert all footnotes to endnotes (I don't know the Mac Ribbon/Menu structure for this).
2. Run the macro in https://www.msofficeforums.com/word-...html#post47377
3. Convert all endnotes to footnotes.

For Mac macro installation & usage instructions, see: https://wordmvp.com/Mac/InstallMacro.html

Default You're my hero

Excellent! I'm editing a book with more than 200 articles that had this footnote issue. You just made my day!
