Default Find instances of heading text in the body of my doc, make cross reference to the actual heading

This is a follow-up to my previous question. Now that I have found and applied a Heading 1 style to the text, I've removed "State Community Name:" from all of the instances so I am now just left with the community names (e.g. GRASSLAND, FOREST, etc) formatted as Heading 1.

I'd like to find all instances of GRASSLAND, including grassland and Grassland, in the body and make a cross reference to the heading GRASSLAND, so a reader can click on the word grassland in the body and navigate to the GRASSLAND section. There are a couple hundred different Heading 1 instances (e.g. FOREST, LAKE, etc), so I'd prefer a method that could mostly automate this. Any help is appreciated!

Assign a bookmark to your Grassland heading (or, at least, to Grassland itself), then insert a cross-reference to it. Copy that cross-reference to the clipboard and use Find/Replace, where:
Find = Grassland
Replace = ^c
Note: If you use Replace All, Grassland in your heading will be replaced, so you'll have to either not use that or, if you do, restore Grassland there (and perhaps the bookmark, too) after doing the Find/Replace. Again, no macros required.

Thanks! That's a great solution for one, but can get pretty tedious with a few hundred. Any suggestions for that?

Unless there's a way of identifying what they'll be before trying to create the bookmarks & cross-references, that's the best there is.

You could change the original text Grassland that is the heading to which the cross-reference links to sax "Graxxland" and then do Replace All. Then restore your "Grassland" to be the way you want. That way you could use Replace All.
