Default Combining variables and hidden text

I basically want a simple single sourced document.

I want to keep all my content in one document, but I have at least 4 versions of this document.
- one with everything (content, questions, answers, editorial notes)
- one with 3 of the variables (content, questions, answers)
- one with 2 of the variables (content, questions)
- one with 1 of the variables (content)

I had thought of creating 4 styles for each version.

I was wondering if there is a way to combine this with hidden text option on the styles?

I haven't programmed in a long time, so I was wondering if this is possible or just beyond the capabilities of Word.
