Hi, I've received a number of files to translate and would like to count the total number of words they contain without having to open them. Is there a macro somewhere that could accomplish this? ( I keep searching the Net though) All files are in the same folder. Thanks a lot

Is the word count returned via WIndows/File Explorer sufficiently approximate for your purposes? If so, a macro using the FIle System Object could be used to retrieve the data; otherwise, the macro would have to open each document and use Word's own tools for an accurate word count.

As a matter of fact I'm using a Linux distro ( Xubuntu). But if there isn't already a solution available, don't bother, I'll do it one by one, no problem.
And yes, I should have thought of it, although Word 2010 works within Linux there is a good chance a VB solution will not. Thanks for looking at it Paul and sorry for bothering everybody
