Default Form field to automatically be added to header?

I am trying to modify a Word created form so that when somebody enters the project number under one of the questions, this project number will automatically appear in the header on all pages of the form.

Is there some combination of macros and fields I could use to set this function up?

Cheers

I suspect what you want is Cross-Refencing

You can read this to see if this is what you mean

Thanks for your suggestion. I couldn't open the link but I'm fairly familiar with cross-referencing.

Cross-referencing is the closest I have come to getting what I want, but it doesn't work. The issue I have here is that the user would have to know to update the field so that the project number they entered appears in the header. As far as I know there is no way of making Word automatically update fields (an issue I've always had). I have set the document up so that fields are updated before printing, which could solve my problems part of the time, but it still wouldn't help for when users convert the form to pdf before printing it off.

Are there any other alternatives? I have been playing with bookmarks and think these might be the key, but until just after my original post I hadn't even known bookmarks existed, so I may need some guidance there!

I found the following on another forum

I have no idea if this will help you, but it sure does seem right

Seems like a lot of trouble for something that should be relatively easy

Use a REF field in the header to call the formfield bookmark name and
because the REF field is in a header you will need to run a macro on exit
from the formfield to update the field - the sample code at
http://www.gmayor.com/installing_macro.htm will do the job.

Note that you cannot force users to run the macro, so you could apply a unique character style (you only need the stylename) to the form field and use a Styleref field to display the style content. This will update without the need for macros.
