Default Cross reference content control list with autotext or other text

Hi I am looking for a relatively simple way of cross reference a content control drop down list comprising key words with an already defined paragraph of boiler plate text in autotext.

eg cc drop down give choice a), b) c) which refence to longish paragraphs which i have listed in autotext.

I am a non programmer with limited vba, so need something simple which i can a) understand or b) work out.

i cant program the text into a macor due to the length / quanitity and the need to alter it occassionally

It sounds like you are trying to mimic the functionality of a 'Building Block Gallery Content Control'. It doesn't require any vba coding.

Have you investigated this yet?

Yep.

Unfortunately, I have about 200 piece of boiler plate text. I need to offer the user say 3 or 4 options at any one point - hence the reason for a drop down list offering say three options a, b, c and cross referencing the main autotext list

You need to explain your problem better before we can suggest a simple solution. I still think the CC could be used to provide a second level CC but perhaps a userform and vba is going to be required.

I can't see how you can isolate 200 options from making a couple of choices from a list of 4 options. By my reckoning it will take a series of four choices each of 4 four choices to reach a number over 200 (4x4x4x4 = 256).

The existing boiler plate / autotext is used to populate a report divided into say 30 sections / chapters. Each chapter may have a couple of relevant phrases (say 4) within the existing gallery of text.

Eg section on Damp proof course may have phrases relating to various scenaris NO DPC Present, Slate DPC, felt DPC each phrase being 50 / 60 words. These are all contatnied in the existing autotext gallery which hold all phrases.

In any one section, i want to offer the user a choice of only those relevant phrases by giving them keys words in a drop down list - say those high lighted above. They sthen select the relevant key word, and bingo the section of the report contains the relavant phrase.

Using ciontent control building block autotext only offers the user all 200 + and they cant read the phrase anyway.

No. Using the CC shows the entries you have put into the template for the Gallery/Category combo you have specified.
For instance, if you put everything in as as Quick Parts (the Gallery) and then divide them into different Categories then you can see just those relevant entries eg.
Gallery = Quick Part / Category = Damp Proof Course / Name = No DPC Present
Gallery = Quick Part / Category = Damp Proof Course / Name = Slate DPC
Gallery = Quick Part / Category = Damp Proof Course / Name = Felt DPC

Then your CC specifies this Gallery and Category so you only see those three entry names
