Index Hyperlink Workaround
Need to hyperlink from an index entry to the relevant page, but cannot find a direct hyperlink solultion. I have another idea - put a box of some sort at the top of each page of the index where a user can enter a page number and then have Word move to that page. It would say something like: Go to page ______ , where user types a page number.
Does anyone know of such a tool/macro? Last edited by Phil H; 10-29-2014 at 10:48 AM. Reason: spelling |

Word has no facility for hyperlinking index entries to their sources. However, see:
DEXembed for Microsoft Word or my own version in: https://www.msofficeforums.com/word/...ber-index.html

Paul, Thanks much for your reply - appreciate your time. I am prevented from downloading this program due to security rules, thus I need to fashion a workaround within the document. I found "GoToPage Macro Action" at this MSDN site http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/libr...ffice.12).aspx . It is for a form of some sort, but I wonder if it could be modified somehow to use in a Userform in a Word document.

That link just contains some programming code to switch to a different page; it's not something you can use to add a hyperlink to your index. Even the code in the links I posted turns your index into ordinary text (so it no longer updates), then adds hyperlinks to the pages concerned. You could do the same thing manually; the code just simplifies the process.

Now I'm over my head. I was thinking I could create a Userform where a number was entered in a control. When the user clicks Enter, a macro would move focus to the page the user entered. I was trying to avoid "hyperlinking" the index, per se. Maybe my idea is not possible. Your thoughts?

Here is another link which goes the direction of my thinking: http://www.addictivetips.com/microso...-in-word-2010/

Content controls, as such, have nothing to do with what you're after.

Is there any way to use GoToPage?

I have already answered that, in post #4. You cannot do what you want with an Index that uses Word's Index field. You have to unlink the field (i.e. convert it to text), then add hyperlinks to the pages concerned. The code in the links in post #2 automates that process.
In any event, even if GoToPage was useful, the same security rules you say prevent you downloading the IndexLinker would probably prevent you downloading anything using that uses GoToPage. That's because both pertain to VBA programming.
