Default Operator symbols are not recognized by vba

Hi All,

We are using a script for converting the special characters to entity including operator symbols, but some case operator symbols converted to "?" instead of respective entity.

We are manually recognized the character using ?(selection.text) in immediate window, it will generate "?".

Also we are checking missing font list and substitute same font list in library.

Still problem persist. Please advice.

Thanks in Advance
Sankar B

To which operator characters do you refer?

Are you sure you are using ASCII:
• 42 for the *
• 43 for the +
• 45 for the -
• 47 for the /
You cannot use non-ASCII characters, even if they look the same in other programs or in a Word document.

Hi Paul Edstein,

Kindly refer the screen shot from the attachment.

Thanks

To attach a document to a post, use the paperclip symbol on the 'Go Advanced' tab at the bottom of this screen.

That looks to me like a character in another font or, perhaps, a non-ASCII character in the same font. What do you get if you select the character and run the following macro:
Code:
Sub GetChar()
Dim SelFont, SelCharNum
With Selection
  With Dialogs(wdDialogInsertSymbol)
    SelFont = .Font
    SelCharNum = .CharNum
  End With
End With
MsgBox SelFont & vbTab & SelCharNum
End Sub

What the message box confirms is that you do not have the letter 'x' there, but the '´' symbol from the symbol font. As such it's a protected character, for which you can't obtain the equivalent ASCII value (hint: 4096-3916) in the immediate window. If you change the font to, say, Arial or Times, you'll be able to read the ASCII value. Whether that's any use to you depends on what you're trying to do.
