Default Need: User to click image and leave red dots or circles

Ladies and Gentleman,

I need the end user to be able click on the attaged outline image of the human body and leave red dots or circles wherever he/she clicks. The form the image is on would then be saved and/or printed, so the marked areas could be reviewed later.

Background: Somehow I've been put in charge of "digitizing" our intake forms at our small healthcare institution--very small operation, so far building forms with MS Word Developer tools has worked great. (I am a rank amateur with no real programming experience.) However, this one has me stumped. Right now the nurse assesses the patient's skin and marks on the diagram (on a piece of paper) the location of any skin issues. I need them to be able to do that on a MS Word form. Should be simple, right?

Thanks

If you look under Insert|Shapes, you'll see a wide range of circles, etc. that can be inserted into a document. If you insert an Oval, this can be resized/shaped as necessary. You can also use the Drawing Tools that appear when it is selected to change its fill (e.g. to transparent) and outline colour (e.g. to red). The outline thickness can also be changed.

Perhaps better still, the available shapes include callouts, which allow you to insert a box that can be typed in with a line pointing to the area under discussion. You can drag the callout lines around independently of the callout positioning.

Paul,

I believe you have misunderstood me, but only because I did not express myself well. I'm using the Developer function. I need the user to be able to do this on a form with restricted editing (the user is limited to "Filling in Forms"). Just like they can select an option from a dropbox menu, I need them to be able to mark areas of the body with a simple click. Is this possible?

Thanks!

See attached. Next to the diagrams is a red circle. Click on that and you can use the keyboard arrow keys to drag it over whatever part of the diagram you want. You can even copy/paste it to produce multiple circles, which can also be resized via the Drawing Tools on the Ribbon.

The rest of the document has read-only protection applied so that nothing else can be edited.

Paul, thank you so much, that gives me some ideas for wound documentation!

Only one more question, and that is: is it possible to "Make Exceptions" to editing if you have the "Restrict Editing" feature set to "Filling in forms?" I was planning to include this diagram on a form with drop-down menus and text boxes.

Regards

Exceptions can't be applied with the "Filling in forms" restrictions. However, if you're using content controls for the text & dropdown inputs, you can simply mark those as Exceptions, too. Although there is a way of leaving portions of a document unprotected when using formfields and "Filling in forms" restrictions, that won't allow you to move or resize the circles.
