Your description suggests you're not working with Word templates but with Word documents, constructed as forms, and having certain fields in common. I very much doubt that a macro exists for transferring data when the fields and their titles differ. Indeed, as yet you haven't even told us what kinds of 'fields' you're referring to (eg formfields, DOCPROPERTY fields, content controls, etc) or how the titles are related to them.

Thanks so much for the reply. Yes they are forms with form fileds (sort in resumes)-

i can describe them they are two word documents with forms and formfields saved as templates for repeated use.

they are actually word documents with only text.

OK, but to transfer the data between the documents, one would need to know for each formfield in the source document the formfield in the target document with which it corresponds. Ideally, you'd use the formfields' internal bookmark names for this. If it's only for one document, it'd probably take less time to do the transfer manually than it would to develop & test a macro.

We would need MUCH greater detail to move this forward.

Thanks so much.
@macropad: more i was reading and understanding word, i felt same.

instead of comparing each field and developing a macro to transfer data from original to target, easy to do manually. But the job needs about 30mins to do.

do you have any other suggestions?

@fumei: can you please let me know, which details we may need.

forms are not too huge.

For the size of the project you have in mind, the manual approach would take less time than implementing a macro solution for a project for which you've still not provided any meaningful coding information.

With your existing form, check Word's 'save form data as delimited text file' (File|Options|Advanced) option then save. You should then find it easier to copy & paste the data from the output file to your new form.

Thanks again. I shall try it.

I am not sure, if I have explained it correctly due to lack of real terminology.

They are two different forms (to fill employee competence profile). One is different to other in design, and titles to text field.
From the original form, I have to take only contents of the employee and copy it into another form into respective fields.

i wish copy screenshot but cannot do it.

I want to automize the process as this had to be done (job of copying the data of employee from one format of resume to another) over and over.

thanks for being patient,

I understand what you're trying to do, but you haven't provided any of the information that I previously indicated would be required to automate the process.

Oh I am sorry, since it is in German and I have 2003 version on this computer (expected 2010 soon), I am still trying to figure it. Thanks again.

In this case version is not really relevant. There is no advantage in 2010. What macropod (and I guess myself as well) is stating is that unless you can give very explicit details on the relationships of the formfields between the documents, there is little point in discussing macro solutions.

And really, unless this is a repeating action, a manual solution seems best. The development effort required to work out (and test) a code solution may in fact be more work than a manual solution.

That happens. In any case, you have not given enough information to move this forward.

I understood you require the data after saving the form as you mentioned, when i did it, what i see in a text document is meaning less (formatting characters).

The realtion between text fields, is nothing particular it is same
Name to Name
surname to surname

apart from these regular details as in resumes there are no particular textfields in the forms.

So, if there are only two formfields:
a) that's all there should be in the text document (hardly meaning less (formatting characters)); and
b) really doesn't warrant the 30 minutes you spoke of - more like 30 seconds.

Simply saying the relation is 'Name to Name' and 'surname to surname' means nothing unless those are the bookmark names, especially if they're not in the same order or there are other formfields in either document.

not just two, there must be some 30 text fields where one has to enter data.

now the data entered by applicant into one format should be moved to another format, the second fomat is confidential with some more details added from management so it cannot be given to the person directly.

after understanding little, what i felt is writing macros to move the contents of these text fields from one format to another is tedious, instead doing manual is easy. but iam not sure if I have landed into correct decision.

Thanks so much for help macropad.

Doing it programmatically is not particularly difficult - you simply haven't provided us with any of the details we need before anyone could write a program for it. You seem unwilling to do that, so we can't help you.
