Sequential number generation
Hi Paul,
not sure if this is the same problem as Gez was having. I am running Word for mac 2011 and have a job ticket document which basically consists of 10 pages, each with a text box in the top right corner with an individual number in it. Up until now every time I need a new batch of tickets, I go through and manually update the numbers in the text boxes with the next set of ten (i.e. 25741 becomes 25751 and so on). I'm just getting really sick of having to go through and change each one, and thought maybe there's a way for the program to change the numbers, let me print them and then save the numbers on exit, updating them again the next time I open the document. I've been playing around with bookmarks and fields but not having much luck. Appreciate any help you could give me on this. Thanks |

Hi Sleeker,
The simplest way would be to use an ASK field to solicit the first number, then a series of formula fields to increment them. See attached. A supplied, the fields are all in the body of the document. Only a little effort To activate, use Ctrl-A (Cmd-A on a Mac), then F9. Input the starting #. To automate this for printing, simply ensure Word's 'update fields before printing' option is checked. Alt-F9 (Option-F9 on a Mac) can be used to toggle the field code display on/off.
