Default Another Case of Automatic/Zombie Formatting of Tables

Background:
A master document is being created from various contributions (different sources). Different production people have worked on the document in preparing the different versions. Tables were pasted into the master document from their source files. Later the data was formatted using the template styles of the master document.

Action required and taken:
Mark changes made in the tables, that have been made between versions of the documents. Outside borders on the changed lines is required for the purpose. Words or data that changed were selected and the font color was changed from automatic to black. This action creates the outside border.

Problem:
  • While the file is being marked, the software performs fine.
  • A problem crops up after the work is saved, and the file is closed and opened again:
    • Upon opening the file, work done in one system: the file now has automatic text insertions wherever the font color was changed from automatic to black. The text inserted was the word "Appendix" followed by "A" and progressing to "B," "C,", so on and so forth.
    • Work performed on the same file, using a different system: the program added a 1.17" indent in the table cells with the font color change.
    • There are tables in the same file that had the font color change to black, that did not undergo any change after a file was saved, closed, and opened again. No matter which computer was used (Windows).
What is going on, how to get around this problem? Many thanks in advance!
