Default table spanning multiple pages 'upside down'

Hi, i've created a portrait word doc with a landscape section to accomodate a table that spans mulitple pages. At the moment it is printing back-to-back with the heading in the centre of each page rather than flowing across the pages as i'd like.

see http://www.panoramio.com/photo/55592048 as a picture tells a thousand words.

Is there anyway to print it so that it flows 'across the pages', essentially so that if the reader hold it up sideways 'cetrefold style' it runs from top to bottom rather than flipping over?!

Thanks in advance for any help

Hi lj eco,

The only way to achieve that in Word would be to either:
a) split the table vertically, with each half on the separate pages; or
b) put a blank column in the middle of the table (for the margins), then print the table to landscape format page that is the size of two pages, which you then cut in two to make the separate pages.

Hi macropod,

Thanks so much for the prompt reply. But please xcuse my lack of a full understanding.. i think i might not have spelt out what i was after properly. Hence i'm not sure those solutions will work

So what is currently happeneing is that the table is pritning 'upside down' relative to itself on each page. What i want to do is have it so that the headings are both on the left side of the page so that the text is all in the one orientation when you open the bookelet...ie 'flowing across the page' which might not have been the most appropriate terminology sorry.

Any help always appreciated

Depending on your printer, you may be able to select a duplexing (both-sides printing) option that orients to the top edge, rather than the side. We do this all the time here, as with spiral-bound PowerPoint presentation handouts. If this is only on section of the document, it might be necessary to print it separately.

Best,
Ulodesk

Thanks Ulodesk, yes this is possible for printing our hardcopies but its just that the document will be public and online for download as soon as i can get to the bottom of this (or not), and i don't want punters to have to think about printing it in sections if can avoid. Is there perhaps any way in word to direct it how to print sections if printing orientation is the only way?

Thanks so much again.

Hi lj eco,

In that case, the document should be published as a PDF. Even so, as the print orientation is at the mercy of how the end user has their duplexing (if any) configured, you really can't control what's going to happen at that end.

Hi macropod, yep will be pdf's for sure. So my original question relating to can i change the 'upside down orietation' of the table in MS Word on subsequent pages is no?

Hi lj eco,

Since the output will be at the mercey of the printer setup, it really isn't a Word issue per se.

Yes but is there any way to 'reorient' the table setup so that those who would be printing it in duplex as is the norm would not have it laid out like this. Which kind of is a word issue i'd say. I'm guessing not, but just want to know.

Cheers

Hi lj eco,

How can anything printed from a PDF be a Word issue?

Hi lj eco,

It is not a Word issue - its a printer issue.

Depending on the software you're using, you should be the whole of the pdf you create will be oriented in, say, portrait format. So, if you tell the pdf driver how to manage the pages, anything printed from the pdf shouldn't have any issues.

If you really want to try to control it from Word, you'll need to give up on the idea of a multipage table in Word and create a set of discrete tables, one per page in portrait format (rather than the landscape format I assume you're now using), and orient each table's contents the way you want. You can use that to achieve what looks like a landscape format in a portrait table.
