Unhappy Black Lines on horizontal borders

I am trying to create a table with just white borders and a colored background to type text in. I have done this in every version of Word for years. Now, I have upgraded to 2021, when I try to create this table, I get black horizontal lines on top of the white horizontal borders.

Please can somebody explain how I can stop these black lines appearing? I have never had this problem and it is incredibly frustrating.

We aren't seeing your 'added image'. Perhaps you should post the problem document.

I managed to start again and no lines appeared, but then I tried to modify alignment or add text and the lines appeared again. Frustrating!

I'm not sure if Word 365 has a new feature for cell borders but that looks like a 3D shadow effect. I don't see how to implement that so probably need to examine a document you have that displays it - Can you post a sample document that contains a table like that?

On my Word 2016 machine I'm not seeing the extra black line embossing so I can confirm it isn't a problem on older machines.

I've now tested on a Word365 machine and am not seeing the extra embossing effect with the black line. I also made edits and changed alignment to see if it was recreated as you described.

I'm wondering if it is a video driver issue - does the problem appear in printouts or remain visible at various zoom levels? Have you updated your screen drivers?
