How to have two tables on same line?
Hi
I work for a school, and have been asked to amend the format of our reports such that the tutor comment field appears on the same page as all of the other information. As per the attached, I've narrowed the table containing the data, but need the tutor comment box to appear directly to the right of this table. I have no idea how to do this; is there anyone out there who could assist? Many thanks in anticipation of your assistance. |

Maybe make a separate 1 row by two column table above your first table. Copy and nest the grades table into the left hand side, and the comments table can be moved into the right side. Adjust sizes as necessary. You can then make the borders of that overtable invisible if you like.

I tried the two-tables setup, and couldn't fit everything on the same page.
I then created a larger table, and pasted all the elements within it, nesting tables within tables. This looks weird due to the code presumably taking up more space than the letter or numerical grades would take up, but you get the idea. |

Why wouldn't you make it one table by inserting another column on the right, enlarging it to align on the right and merging the cells so the comment can fill that space?
I would also recommend removing the section breaks you have in the document.

This looks great, thank you. Just one issue - I can't seem to change the width of the subject column to ensure that 'Mathematics' doesn't spill over onto two lines. Would you know how to resolve this? Thanks again.

Using the nested tables approach is a bit more complex than my suggestion.
The first column doesn't want to resize because the other columns also contain words (no spaces) that are the full width of the column and Word is trying to satisfy all the column widths so words don't break. There is a Table Properties setting that says "automatically resize to fit contents" and this is greyed out (probably because the table is nested. The easiest fix for the table "Mathematics" column is to allow the text in the cell to get closer to the left and right borders. You do this by selecting the inner table and right clicking it and choosing Table Properties > Table > Options. Set the Default Cell Margins on the left and right to 0.1cm (it was 0.19cm). This will solve your Mathematics issue and reduce the line count a little bit.
