table default font
Using tables is driving me crazy. When I create a table, the font is Arial 12. I then have to select all the table text and change it to Calibre 12, which is a font I like to use in my tables. It's also the default for my documents. And every time a add more text in the table it enters as Aria. I have to select it and change it again. To make using tables simple, is there a way to change the table default font? |

You say "Calibre 12, .... It's also the default for my documents" but that may be for a single style only. Also there is no "table default font" as you title this thread.
Could you be changing 'Styles' by accident? Switching to another style may change the font and size according to whatever that style is configured with. A table will use the style that is in force when the table is created and if you create a second table then the style can be different in each table if you have switched styles in-between time. Also switching styles at any time will affect the font in separate cells of any table. Next time you are having this problem check that the style has not changed from the style that you want. Style names are likely to be 'Normal', 'No spacing' and others that you see on the top ribbon. The photo shows that the 'No Spacing' style is selected. Start by changing the fonts Body and Heading in your Theme.
Then make sure the Normal style is in your preferred body font. Change Default Settings by Suzanne Barnhill, MVP Default Paragraph Font Explained by Suzanne Barnhill, MVP |

First make sure that you change the document default font to your preferred settings (font and size, in particular). To accomplish that, you can use the Set As Default button in the Font dialog box (Ctrl+Shift+F).
The underlying explanation for these inconsistencies is Word's confusing hierarchy of styles and formatting. For table styles, and paragraph styles applied to text in table cells, to be predictable, the style settings of the Normal style must match the corresponding document defaults (in the Manage Styles dialog box). Afterwards, also see if the table style itself defines a font. Change it if necessary.

default table font
Word 16. I'm creating tables with the Insert tab. However, the created tables have the Arial 12 font. The document default font is Calibi 12 as is my Normal style. I want the font in new tables to be Calibri 12. Why do new tables have Arial 12? How can I change the table default to Calibi 12?

So, just to clarify things: -
Your Word 'Default paragraph style' is set to 'Normal' and this style is configured to use Calibri 12 point font. When you open a new document the style is set to 'Normal' and text is input as Calibri 12 point but when you insert a table, having checked first that you have not switched styles or changed the font by accident, the font in the table becomes Arial 12 point all by itself? If this is correct then it may be a bug. I can't see how it is happening otherwise. Last edited by wiganken; 06-13-2022 at 04:16 AM. |

Check the document defaults as I suggested.
If you can't get it sorted, consider uploading a sample document, as Charles proposed.
