Default Table that gets bigger as I put in data

I think in the past I was able to insert a table with just 2 columns and rows and was able to put in data and it just drew a box as I as I added data in Office. was it in Word?

I can't be sure from that description. Are you talking about more cells being added underneath, or the contents of the cell just flowing down the page and perhaps onto a second page?

I'm attaching two small images to illustrate. If I keep typing in the one cell, as long as it's not set to a specific size, it will auto-size to accommodate my text, even going onto a second page if necessary.

If you mean will your table keep automatically adding rows as you go, as in the other image, no. You may be thinking of Excel there. By the way, you can type your table into Excel and then paste it into Word, either converting it to a Word table, or embedding it as an Excel worksheet within Word.

You can press the Tab key at the end of a table and add a new row.

Thanks --the tab is great for adding another row. Is there no way i can do something similar
to add new columns too?

Not really in Word 2007.

You can select the column, though, and right-click on it. That will give you some choices. (I no longer have Word 2007 available to show.)

Otherwise, with your column selected, look at the Table Tools Layout Tab. In the Rows and Columns group there are commands for adding rows and columns.

Beginning with, I think, Word 2013, there are mouse procedures that let you add rows and columns in the middle of a table.

Simply click in the table where you want to add the new column, then choose Table Tools>Layout> Insert Right (or Insert Left, if you prefer). Note that the same approach allows you to insert rows above or below a location, too.
