Default Word table text alignment

How do I align text within a cell or table. I can Right justify, left and centre on the Paragraph tab. The problem is I no longer have a vertical alignment. It has gone.

You need to be in the table to see the vertical alignment buttons. They are in the (Table) Layout tab which only appears when you are in a table.

That's correct. There are many of these "contextual tabs" that only appear when their controls make sense. They will usually appear toward the left end of the Ribbon and may or may not be actually activated (on top) when you want them.

For instance, if you insert a Table, you will have the two contextual tabs for tables available and the Table Design tab will be on top.

I like to use the Sort command from the [Table] Layout tab sometimes outside of a Table, so I added that to my QAT.
