Default non-rectangular images on shaded table cell background

I use tables with shaded cells for a catalogue.

The inserted images appear over the grey of the cell.

Whenever I insert, say, a triangular image (gif), a rectangular area of the cell slightly changes the background colour. This is independent of the used colour.
Using the "select transparent colour" option does not eliminate the problem.

This problem is invisible on screen and only appears in print (see attachment).
The printer is an HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP M281.

(Word 2019, Windows 10)

I think it would be better to use an image editor to edit the image(s) backgrounds first before they are inserted/imported into Word.
Once the background has been removed, saving as a PNG (.png), not a GIF, with transparent backgrounds should improve the print result.
Out of interest, if you save the .png image below and insert/import into a table, does the print improve?

Thanks - yes, I tried that. Using a png file with transparent colour did not work either.
I seem to remember that a Ricoh production printer I used some years back at the office did not show this problem.
I printed the Word file itself and a pdf file of it. Both gave this result.
Is there perhaps a printing option that avoids this?

I tried to create a replacement graphic, consisting of the same grey background. I then placed the irregular shapes on top. The exported image was ok, but after inserting it into the document instead of the table, the grey had changed.

So this path around the problem does not seem to work either.

What do you mean by transparent colour? - if the background is removed (in an image editor) there would be no background.
Can you give an example of a stamp that your using in Word?

That image is a JPEG - with a background, not a PNG

This is your image, background removed, (& made smaller) as a PNG

My png file was automatically converted to jpg for forum upload.
So I zipped the file and attached it here. Hope it works

Your unzipped image is now in PNG format.
It also has a black surround around the perforations as you know. I suppose this is intentional to 'highlight' the perforations.
I have inserted your image within a table cell and printed it out with no grey background, also printed in PDF format, again, no grey background showing.
I would try another printer if you can as a comparison print out.
If all is well in the other printer(s), it points to your printer/setting.

I see.
Did you use 15% grey backgound in the cell where you put the image?
A cell with no background is fine, the problem only starts when I assign grey to the cell.

And yes, the black rim is intentional.

Thanks for checking this for me!

Using a 15% grey background is OK at my end.
Here's a screen shot (print out is same):

May I ask which printer you are using?

Certainly, on this occasion, I have used an Epson Stylus Photo 1500W

https://www.epson.co.uk/products/pri...00w/Tech-Specs

I would try another printer for a comparison.
You could also, should you want to, upload an actual document with the tables and stamp(s) images for a comparison print at my end.

PS - just thought, what is the document format - is it .doc or docx. What ever it actually is, save as the other, again for comparison print outs.

I'm not seeing the background issue with your transparent PNG. Your profile says you have Office 2019 - can you confirm the file type is docx and not in Compatibility Mode?

However, since it is a regular shape, you can place your image as a picture fill inside a Triangle shape. This will avoid the need for a transparent image and give you the result you are looking for regardless of the printer driver or whatever else your issue might be.

Good morning,
I prepared two versions of the Word file, doc and docx, inserted three image files of different file format, and converted both to pdf.
The Word doc file is too large to append.
The other three are attached as a zip file.

All four printouts looked alike.

Your advice in your last message does not ring a bell. Could you please elaborate?
