Your test page prints fine at this end. No ‘change of colour’ in the cell(s). In the right column, the jpg with a black background prints with that background and obviously removing the black from within Word removes any black border around the perforations. Using a different printer might give a clue to any printer issues/settings. In the meantime though, try this as a test: Using the test document you have supplied, delete the 3 triangular stamps and file extension letters. Check that the table shading has 15% grey Insert a stamp image into the top cell (use a PNG like the 'smaller zipped .png' with transparent background you attached earlier) Right click the image Format Picture Fill & Line > Fill > Solid Fill > Color > 15% Grey Repeat for other cells and check Print Preview/Print out. Click the image below to see a short video of the above. I appreciate it’s the printing out of the document that shows the colour change (or not). |

Thank you for the video.
All went well until second 28, when the inserted stamp image appeared different from yours: smaller drag points and no rotation arrow at the top. The step "right click image - format" did not appear in the popup menu. My settings for inserting images this way are probably different from yours. |

You would expect to see what you have experienced in a .doc (Compatibility Mode) file. Certain options aren't available.
When the .docx format is used, as in my video, then the options like the rotate and Format Picture options appear. Not sure what's going on as I used the .docx file you attached so I assume you are using that also. |

Here’s the difference – both are your files, one docx, the other converted to a .doc [Compatibilty Mode] file.:

You are right, I used the doc format.
Tried that now with the docx file, and your instructions worked. However, the printout showed the discolouration as before. I'll check with some friend's printer next. Thank you for your patience and for helping me eliminate any Word or user error! |

Try Guessed's suggestion with the triangle(s).
I hope I have interpreted his idea correctly. First remove the top two images and file extension letters from cell 1 & 2 as well as the letters in cell 3. Insert an 'Isosceles' Triangle and resize/position over the stamp image remaining so it is the same size or slightly bigger. R/click the triangle and change the Outline colour to black and the weight to say 2¼ (experiment). Fill > Picture > Navigate to your stamp image. When you are satisfied with it, change the wrapping to In Line with Text. Now drag up to first cell. Delete the image in cell 3. Press the Crtl key and hold, then drag down the image to cells 2 & 3. R/click the image in cell 2 > Fill > Navigate to the reqd image. Repeat for cell 3. Try a print out, again for a comparison. The triangle > Fill > Use your stamp image can of course be created independently of the document I have used in the video. It's probably better to do so and you can make it larger and then use/resize that one in a table cell. |

That is an interesting workaround!
However, the printout did sadly not improve. Thank you for your suggestions! |

Last thing to try from me.
If you want 15% Grey as a table cell background – set it so. Open an image editor, I don’t know what you use or prefer, so on this occasion, we will use MS Paint for this experiment. Open Paint, then open the PNG ‘Smaller’ file previously used. Click on ‘Fill with Colour’ icon > Edit Colours. Change Red value to 217 Change Green value to 217 Change Blue value to 217 OK Now click in the white areas to change to the 15% grey that we have set. Save As a JPEG > Accept warning. Use this new stamp image (jpg) in a cell for a comparison. Test print > Fingers crossed > Time for a bottle of red! . . . . . that's a bottle of red wine, not Red Label Whisky!! |

In your test zip the PDF produced from the docx looks like the result I expected
- the PNG is not showing the background and looks fine, - the GIF is a terrible resolution - the JPG has a background because they don't support transparency. - Word document views the same as the PDF on my machine What is the problem again?

Good morning!
I tried the png with the grey colouring in the top corners. Although on screen it was fine, on the printout it was not. And that is the entire problem I will have to accept: My HP Laserjet Pro MFP M281 is unable to print these files correctly. Thanks for your help! |

Have you checked whether you have the latest printer driver? Sometimes you have more than one option for printer drivers eg Postscript vs Non-Postscript - perhaps you get a different result with the 'other' one.

Thank you for the advice. I updated the printer driver.
The printout still shows the same problem. |
