How to space a Table in MS Word 2016
I have a document that has a large table that spreads over 15 pages (so far). On the first page there is a problem with the table going all the way up to the edge of the paper.
See Capture1.jpg attached. Now if I put in a header the table does not move it just goes all the way into the header. See Capture2.jpg. All of the other pages format this just fine. How can I fix the first page which I have shown you with the two attachments is improperly formatted. Yes the table is one continuous table on all 15 pages. It is hard for me to move on the traditional way. Select table and move icon to a newlocation. Amny help appreciated. Thanksin advance. Respectfully, Lou Reed |

What is your top margin setting?

I will find the margin setting
I will find out. It is correct on all of the other pages, except the first. That is the issue.
There seems to be no way that I can move the top of that table down so I can put in a header and not have the table overrun the header. I will find out. I will then get back to you. Respectfully, Lou Reed |

Her it is, plus another piece of info that might help
The margins are whatever the default is which n this case is 1 inch top, bottom, left and right.
However, i have found some info that may help. On the top page the paragraph marks are on the side and on the second page and any other page. I think this may be the issue. Maybe if I could move the marks on the first page and put them in the same position as on the second page then the fist page would have real header. I will try it. respectfully, Lou Reed |

Are you sure this is one continuous table? It looks like a floating table on the first page only.

What is a floating table
I believe this is one continuous table. I do not know what a floating table is in ms word.

Try inserting a couple of big rows in the middle.
Do the bottom rows get scrolled to the next page? If so, it is a long continuous table. If not, the first page is separate. (Ctrl+Z to get rid of the new rows.) Can you select the table and copy it into a new document? |

I am sending a copy
The bottom rows roll onto the second sheet when i insert a couple of blank rows
in the middle of the first page. If I copy and paste the table, it just reproduces the first original error. See first post. What is going on? In the test.docx that I am sending I also show how it overruns the header in the fist page. Respectfully, Lou Reed |

That worked!
Okay, that did it. I am not what I did or how it fixed the problem.
What did I do and how did it fix the issue? It was so easy once I put in the keystrokes. Respectfully, Lou Reed Last edited by Lou_Reed; 07-23-2020 at 08:52 AM. |

I don't know how you got it to "Around." but it is not hard to have happen.

In my experience a table gets accidentally floated when people grab it by the little four-way arrow icon near the top left corner and then drag that icon even a very small distance.
