Default Shading/Borders in a Table: A Way to Memorize/Preset?

I have a Word document with several tables and each table has about 8 columns and 20-30 rows. The table is being used to track steps completed for a certain task.

I want to add color to one cell as I "check off" that task. I will be coming back to this document many times over several months. To right-click and choose Borders and Shading and then about 6 more clicks to complete the action is tedious and something I don't want to do repeatedly.

Is there a way to memorize or create a preset so with one or two clicks I can highlight the cell with a given color? The cell may or may not contain text.

Thank you!

Not exactly. You could create a Drop-Down and use that. See Paul Edstein's work in this thread https://www.msofficeforums.com/word-...html#post47254

Another way would be with macros linked with keyboard shortcuts.

Did you take a look at the macro options In the link I provided? I or someone else would be happy to work with you on that.

Here is an Add-In that will allow you to use keyboard shortcuts.

Thank you for the link and the Add-In. I did scan that thread briefly - it would take me some studying since I'm not real swift with this kind of thing. I also appreciate the offer of help with a macro.

I'll see what I can do and then let you know if I need some assistance.

EDIT: I just realized what the .dotm file does. Cool! Thank you! The Light Green and the Orange did not work, though. Is it possible for me to edit the Add-In to make my own colors?

Try it here: Table Cell Color Keyboard Shortcuts
I updated it to include shortcuts for the rows.

The keyboard shortcut Ctrl+2,B means press Ctrl+2 followed by the letter "B." This lets you use two keys for 20 macros.

You can also just run the macros.

I rechecked the shortcuts before posting.

[EDIT: Yes, it is certainly possible to edit the Add-In to add your own colors, or to change the keyboard shortcuts. The vba is not locked. For custom colors, I recorded a macro changing the color and then used that color in the vba code. Note that the macros are set to not give an error message if the selection is not in a table. Note also, that if you run it in the wrong cell, Ctrl+Z will undo.]

By the way, I'm sure that someone else could program this much more elegantly.

I just tried Table Cell Color Keyboard Shortcuts.

It worked fine. You should see the above in your browser when you do. Click on the link there.
I added it to my downloads page for more general accessibility.

If you are not seeing the link, refresh your browser.
