Insert table in Word 7 at bottom of two-column page?

I have no problem inserting a table spanning two columns if it is to appear at the top of a page, but I can't figure out how to do so at the bottom of a page that has two columns of text above the table. Any hints?

Insert a Section break above the table, giving the new Section a single-column layout.
