Default Whacked formatting in tables (2007)

Everything was fine, and then suddenly I noticed that the text in my tables were all first-line indented. The assigned style does not reflect any indent, and manually changing it to any other style results in the same problem. Only fix I have found is to create a new table, and drag the text into it one entry at a time, careful not to drag the end marker as well.

Anybody have a clue what is going on? This is killing me...

Are you sure you do not have any TAB STOPS on your ruler?

Yes there are, but not according to the style definition. There aren't supposed to be any. I clear them and update the style and they return. Apply the style to a para and it works fine. Apply it to a para in a table and its all whacko.

See if this helps:

First, see each cell as a separate page

Okay, as with any page, you can adjust indentation by doing the following:

Select your table

Go to your Home tab, then Paragraph group, and use the the small drop down arrow to the lower right

From here, adjust indentation to what you want left and right even going to minus indentation which will truncate data

I've adjusted the tabs every way possible, from an entire table to one cell at a time to one paragraph at a time. Nothing solved the problem except deleting the entire table and starting over...

I suspect that the table was created with, or has adopted, an included text style that includes the tab stops or para formatting that's bothering you. Word's tables remain a pain. I would suggest deleting the table style from the Quick Parts list, saving the document and changes to the attached template, then reopening and recreating the table.

Only one of the table styles even defined tabs, and that one was being used in this table. The issue has since been fixed by deleting the table and recreating (what a PITA) and has not returned, so I can't do much troubleshooting at the moment. if it comes back I'll give this a try.
