Default Custom table in custom Word 2010 template

How do I create a custom table that will be invoked when I click Insert Table in a custom Word template? In other words, I do NOT want a document to open with a table already open.

Thanks,

Hans L

A simple solution would be to create a table, formatted as you require it, in the template, then save it as a building block.

I created a custom table in my document template, highlighted it (by highlighting all cells; maybe that is a problem?), saving it and giving it a name, saving it in General (maybe should have been Built-In). However, I can now not find the table now (I have looked everywhere in Insert, I believe, but to no avail).

Any thoughts?

Insert the table into your template. Select the table by clicking the handle top left of the table. Press ALT+F3. Give it a name e.g. MyTable. SaveIn the template (not Normal.dotm). Delete the table from the template.

Insert > QuickParts > MyTable

or type MyTable and press F3 (though the chances are you will see the prompt rto press Enter to insert before you have finished typing the name).

Note that yoiu cannot save autotext entries in a document. It must be a table.
