Table anomaly
I have attached a doc with a screen shot of a table with all the styling and info removed. Please notice the top ruler, which is terribly skewed, not showing the alignment of the column as usual. The cursor is in the table (row 4).
The table was created/inserted using Word's table insert dialogue. Due to whatever is causing the skewing (for lack of a better term), the vertical borders cannot be dragged. I checked all the table settings looking for the problem before I saw the ruler issue. Even stranger, on occasion when the cursor is placed in some rows in such a table, the ruler alignment returns to normal and the borders can be adjust from there but not other rows. In one case it was a bottom row, in other a heading or row several down. The problem is occurring in documents based on a custom template that we have been using for years without issue. Any ideas what could be causing this strange phenomenon, and how to fix it? |

Posting an actual table would give us something to work with.

Source of problem discovered
Thank you for obliging me to delete at the content that could not be shared, in the process of which I discovered the problem, though I still don't understand it. I was removing bit by bit around a couple of tables and found that, when I deleted paragraphs with comments, the ruler-displacement resolved itself. The problem results from having comments displayed in the right margin; when markup display is changed to no markup, the problem disappears and the table is once again adjustable in the usual way. In this case, the comment was in a paragraph just several above the table and on the same page. Somehow, the table, though not straight text, was not adapting to the extra width created by the comments space to the right.
Live and learn. Again, thanks for the prompt. |
